Advanced Dentistry @ Hyndland Dental Clinic provides a dental XRays and CT Scanning service to patients throughout Glasgow, Edinburgh and Central Scotland.

Our clinic facilities feature 2- dimensional X-rays and 3 dimensional CT scanning.  All of the surgeries in the clinic are equipped with digital 2-dimensional X-ray capabilities.X-rays are used in dentistry to detect decay, diagnose specific conditions associated with the teeth and surrounding bone or to plan more complex cases.

Our digital X-ray capabilities mean that patients are exposed to less radiation than conventional X-ray techniques.

The X-ray images are displayed instantaneously and can be manipulated as required in order to clearly and efficiently diagnose dental problems.

In addition to the X-rays mentioned above, 2-dimensional full mouth X-rays can be obtained using our digital OPG machine.  This type of image can show the teeth, supporting bone, dental nerves, sinuses and jaw joints. The images are also obtained instantaneously and use a lower dose of radiation than conventional techniques. These images can be used to diagnose disease, or plan proposed treatment taking into account the volume of bone remaining together with the presence of vital structures (nerves, sinuses).

Advanced Dentistry @ Hyndland Dental Clinic is one of the few clinics in Scotland to own and operate a Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) Scanner. This fantastic piece of equipment enables three-dimensional imaging of the teeth and surrounding structures to be obtained using as low a radiation dose as possible.  To ensure the dosage is as low as possible, our EWOO Pax-Due CBCT Scanner allows us to select various sizes for scanning to ensure that we only view the area we require.

The three-dimensional CBCT images allow fantastic diagnostic and planning capabilities for the dentists in the clinic and the images can be used for diagnosis, bone assessment, the precise location of vital structures and endodontics (root treatment) on difficult teeth. In addition, using the information gained from the CBCT scans, we can produce 3D models of a patients bone to enable computer-assisted planning and design for implant placement in difficult areas.  This is made possible using a unique planning software tool offering the possibility of computer-guided surgery.

It is a requirement that all of the images that we take are safely stored and accurately reported. The dentists in the clinic will record all relevant information from X-rays or scans that they take in the clinic. The digital images, in particular CBCT scans, contain a massive amount of information. Neil Heath is part of our team and can specifically report on the scans when requested by either our own or referring dentists. Heath works closely with our team when reporting to ensure that any information relevant to proposed planning is highlighted. In addition, some CBCT scans can show information in areas outside the dental region and Heath can interpret such images and detect any anomalies that may be present.

X-ray images are made using radiation. Whilst very useful, radiation is dangerous and its use must be closely monitored to ensure safety. To ensure that we operate as safely as possible, observing all guidelines, the clinic has an appointed Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA). Our RPA is Helen Ammatiello from the Department of Clinical Physics and Bioengineering at Gartnavel Royal Hospital.
